Ex-Chief, Ex-Commissioner and 35 year member Gerard M. Buckley II, passed away.

It is with deep regret that Hampton Bays Fire Department  Chief Thomas Gorman announces that 35 year member, Ex-Commissioner and Ex-Chief Gerard M. Buckley II, father of firefighter Gerard M. Buckley III, has answered his last alarm.

Jerry began volunteering with the Hampton Bays Fire Department in 1981, and served as chief for eight years. In 2003, about two years after stepping down as chief, Jerry became a fire commissioner for the district.

Jerry also owned two Hampton Bays businesses: GBS Custom Designs and Buckley Contracting. His knowledge of construction came in handy when the Ponquogue Avenue substation was being built and when the district renovated the Main Street firehouse in 2004. Much of the finish work at the substation and the main firehouse was done by Jerry.

Jerry was also a longtime Scoutmaster of a Hampton Bays Boy Scout Troop.

Rest in Peace Chief. You will be missed.
