Nassau County Officer sprang into action—saving his life in a dramatic roadside rescue, police announced on Saturday, March 15.

Officers rushed to Forest Avenue and Clyde Road after the crash at 12:50 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025. They found the young victim semi-conscious, blood pooling from a deep laceration to his right arm. The wound was so severe that a tourniquet wouldn’t work, police said.

Instead, quick-thinking Officer Havens grabbed a bleed-stop kit, packing the wound with gauze in a desperate attempt to keep him alive. His efforts paid off. Medics from the Baldwin Fire Department rushed the man to the hospital, where he is now in stable condition.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman behind the wheel of a 2017 Nissan Altima, stayed at the scene, police said.

Photos captured the aftermath, showing Officer Havens at the hospital with the injured man—evidence of the lifesaving measures that made all the difference.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
