| The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Hampton Bays Fire District adopted a resolution on March 4, 2026 at a regularly convened public meeting of the Board authorizing an amendment pursuant to article 11 -a of the Gener al Municipal Law of the State of New York of its LOSAP plan of which it serves as plan sponsor and to place the proposed amendments and the following resolution before a public referendum and vote of qualified and eligible voters in the Hampton Bays Fire District at a special election as hereinafter provided The resolution if approved would amend the defined benefit Hampton Bays Fire District LOSAP plan, established pursuant to article 11 -a of the New York General Municipal Law, as amended, and administered by the Hampton Bays Fire District and its Board of Fire Commissioners, to increase the number of years for which participating active volunteer firefighters can be eligible to earn a LOSAP service credit award from 40 to 50 years, and to increase the monthly benefit amount for participating active volunteer firefighters from $20 to $25 for each year of earned service credit with all other provisions of the LOSAP plan remaining unchanged. If approved by vote of eligible voters at a special election and referendum, the amendments would be effective and would increase the years of service credit that can be earned by a participating active volunteer firefighter under the program from forty (40) to fifty (50) years and increase the monthly service award from $20 to $25 for each year of service credit earned by an active participating firefighter The annual funding cost of the current LOSAP program for 2026 for eligible active participating volunteer firefighters was actuarially projected as $155,955.00 (with the annual cost per firefighter of approximately $1430.88). The annual projected funding cost of the LOSAP under the proposed LOSAP amendments for 2026 for eligible active participating volunteer firefighters is actuarially projected to be approximately $81,000.00 higher (with the annual average cost per firefighter of approximately $2284.00 per each participating volunteer firefighter). It is not anticipated there will be any increase in the program administration costs as a result of these amendments. The failure of the amendment to be approved by the eligible and qualified voters of the Hampton Bays Fire District will in no way affect the provisions of the LOSAP plan currently in effect. The referendum vote will be conducted at a special election to be convened pursuant to and in accordance with the LOSAP statute and the provisions of section 179 of the New York State Town Law, and conducted at the primary office of the Hampton Bays Fire District located at 69 west Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, New York on April 21,2026 between the hours of 6pm and 9pm. Eligible and qualified voters who are registered to vote pursuant to town law section 175-a, and have resided in the Hampton Bays Fire District for at least 30 days prior to the referendum and special election date may attend at the aforesaid address and time and cast their vote. The referendum will be monitored by appointed electors, and the results of the vote and special election will be canvassed immediately following the conclusion of the special election and vote and duly reported as required by statute.
